RADIUS SERVICE

Document Managed by Network Systems

The OIT RADIUS service provides authentication for the University modems, RIAS, and web servers. It is available for use by any system at Rutgers which needs to verify the identity of potential users. For problems or question about this service contact radius_support@email.rutgers.edu.

Authentication is available for three domains of users. Authentication can be tested against all students, all faculty and staff, or the combination of the two. Currently the definition of student, faculty, or staff is a little lax and really means anyone who can successfully log in to eden or RCI. This may include students who have left or graduated as well as employees who have quite, retired, or been fired.

Use of the OIT RADIUS service may be requested from the email list above. Please include the hostname that service is desired for, the domain to authenticate against, and an encryption key of 32-254 printable ASCII characters (no spaces or tabs). Hosts using the RADIUS service must be registered in the university's DNS system and the person requesting the service must be a network or host liaison in charge of that host. RADIUS encryption keys are never divulged once they are entered into the system; a liaison can change a key at any time but we will never disclose what the currently configured key is.
