Document Managed by Network Operations
Rutgers Computing Services Telecommunications Division (OIT-TD) allocates network IP space to authorized personel. Both private and public space is available for use. Fees will be based on hardware needed, and applied where applicable. Requests concerning network space must be made by Network Liaisons and authorized OIT staff. For additional information relating to private space, please refer to Use of Private RFC-1918 Addresses at Rutgers.
There are a number of responsibilities that require completion, prior to the user gaining or changing network space.
NL and OIT staff Requirements/Responsibilities for a New Allocation:
- Provide NL Information (NL Definition)
- Department
- Desired Network Size (8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256)
- Estimated Date of Deployment
NL and OIT staff Requirements/Responsibilities for a Allocation Resize:
- Provide NL Information (NL Definition)
- Current Network Allocation
- Desired Network Size (8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256)
- Estimated Date of Deployment
Submission of this information should be in accordance with the Network Space Allocation Request Form which should be provided to the Network Operations Center @732.445.7541 or via email td-netops@td.rutgers.edu
Upon completion of the user requirements, the process takes approximately two (2) weeks to complete, with the exception of any problems, unusual circumstances, or scheduling conflicts. Details regarding this information are detailed below.
OIT-TD Responsibilities
- Verify Requestor is Valid NL for Network(s)
- Determine Availability of Space Requested
- Determine Fees if Applicable
- Allocate space
- Verify Timeline
Detailed User Requirements/Responsibilities:
- Provide NL Information:
NL information must be provided prior to or at the time of the request: - Full Name
- Department/Business Unit
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Department
Providing the department name or description of the organization for which the address space is being requested for is necessary for TD to identify allocated networks. - Desired Network Size
The size of a network allocation is based on a Department's current ip space needs, and does not provide for possibilities for future expansions. Available network space ranges from 8 host networks to 256 host networks. Requests for 128 and 256 host networks must be backed by a "hard count" of machines to be provided by the requester.
In reference to and allocation resize, TD will expand current space where possible. - Estimated Date of Deployment
Indicate the approximate time the network is expected to be brought online. TD will coordinate any new network activations or updates to Departmental networks providing that they do not interrupt service to any area other than the local network.
